New build house roof carcass - saves installation time and costs. But is it good?

One of our customers asked to quote for their loft conversion, so I took some pictures of the existing roof structure. The house is newly built, so not surprisingly, the structure is made up of 2" by 1" - quite thin timber, which we normally use for battening. This roof is done with prefabricated triangle parts, and the whole roof structure took no more than a day to assemble. Obviously, this structure is not suitable for loft, so we will have to install proper rafters.

They say it's good, as it saves time - instead of few days of work you do it in few hours. But is it worth doing so? In my opinion - no, as you can't even use that attic for storage space. If they had used proper timbers, there would be much less supports and you would have a proper floor area for storage. This is one of the things which I don't like about new build - doing it as fast as possible, and as cheap as possible. And that's why perhaps I will not buy a newly built house or a flat. I prefer to buy old property and do it up to my own requirements. Would you buy old or new build property (if we leave aside the government first buy scheme)?
